  • Dr. Alaa Eldanasoury currently serves as Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Cornea & Refractive Surgery Units of the Magrabi Hospitals & Centers. He is currently a board member of the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO).
  • Dr. Eldanasoury also served as President of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) during the years 2010-2011. In 2011, he was elected to serve on the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Board of Trustees till 2014; the first non-American to serve in this position.
  • He was among the very first refractive surgeons to perform excimer laser surgery in the world, and introduced many procedures to the Middle East including Phakic IOLs, Intracorneal ring segments, FemtoLASIK, Crosslinking and others.
  • He chaired the Scientific Committee of the Middle East Africa Council of ophthalmology (MEACO) between 2004 and 2013.
  • Dr. El-Danasoury has many peer reviewed publications and book chapters. He received many awards including the Life Time Achievement Award, Barraquer Award, the Senior Achievement Award of the AAO.
  • He considers his best achievement is training more than 16 Cornea and Refractive surgery fellows; some of them are now leading ophthalmologists in their own countries.
