  • Greek born in Cairo! Medical degree M.B., B.Ch. and Masters in Ophthalmology (Cairo University). Academic: Lecturer, then Assistant Professor – University of Crete, Greece – Director of Vardinoyannion Eye Institute of Crete. 1999 – founder and scientific director “VLEMMA” Eye center in Athens. International leader in anterior segment research and clinical work. Beside pioneering work in LASIK and PRK, he was amongst the first, to use the “express valve” in glaucoma (2000). Introduced Clear Lensectomy in hyperopia (1991). Using premium IOLs since 2001 (Crystalens, multifocals, toric IOLs). Implanting and teaching ICLs (STAAR) since1993. Keratoconus: First surgeon in Europe to use and publicize Ferrara rings and early CXL user. At the spearhead of the first clinical trials and publications of the Pascal tonometer. Clinical advisor in refractive surgery and cataract surgery in many centers in Europe and the Middle East. Original references, reviews in medical journals, book chapters and hundreds of presentations at conferences (AAO, the ESCRS, etc.) Co-editor with Pallikaris of the reference book “LASIK”.
